ABOUT ZOË
I live in Hampshire with my Husband, Son and our new little puppy. I'm hugely passionate about my craft and love nothing more than a day chipping away in my studio.
I've worked with stone for over 15years and have a unique range of skills, with a degree in fine art, apprenticeships in both stone masonry and letter carving and a diploma in Historic Stone carving. I'm fortunate to have been trained by some master craftsmen along the way who have shaped my practice.
I developed a fascination with geometric patterns whilst living in SouthEast Asia. The sacred geometry of the rainforest combined with Islamic patterns captured my heart.
I find carving this patterns into stone both exhilarating and compulsive. Watching the sculpture emerge from a flat pattern to a three dimensional sculpture is something I shall never tire of.
I exclusively carve British Stone, feeling a deep connection with the raw material from my home country.
I find the carving process to be meditative and calming, I feel very privileged to be able to work slowly with just a mallet and chisel, carving the patterns to the highest standard I can achieve.
WHY GEOMETRY?
For me the complexity of the pattern provides a wonderful challenge.
The precision of the designs stretches my abilities. With virtually no room for error, uppermost concentration and focus are required, which even though slow paced is incredibly exhilarating!
Having always loved precision and visual accuracy being able to create work to a level I find satisfying is very rewarding.
I adore the timeless nature of geometry, which seems to speak to the very heart of my sole.

BRITISH STONE
I'll admit I have a complete love affair with British stone!
I distinctly remember the point when I returned home from living abraod for two years and started carving Welsh slate again.
It was like meeting an old dear friend, and I LOVED carving it so very much!
I felt a huge sense of connection with the materiel which originated a stones trow away from my parents house, I really understood it to be my bedrock and the from then on I have exclusively carved Biritsh stone.
We are so fortunate to have incredibly beautiful raw materials so close by. I have become incredibly aware of the environmental impact of both quarrying stone but also the shipping involved.
Welsh slate, Portland limestone, Scottish red Sandstone are amongst some of my favourite stones to work with.
