About the carving:
Enjoying how light plays on the carved surface of the stone, Zoë wanted to carve a design which seemed to move with changing light. Not knowing exactly how a pattern will look when carved is one of the elements Zoë finds particularly exciting about her work.
Zoë likes to give her work a title which reflects how she was feeling whilst carving it. This piece took around a week to carve, in which time a dear friend’s young son was critically ill in hospital. Zoë spent all her time whilst carving this work willing him to hold on, hoping for his parents to be able to hold him again. Thankfully there was a happy ending to the story, this piece marks his journey at that time.
