About the carving:

Zoë carved the original sculpture in 2021 to exhibit at Artefact Art Fair at the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, London. The idea for this pattern came to Zoë when looking through drawings she had made at City and Guilds of London Art School whilst studying Historic Stone Carving. Encouraged to not rub out initial sketches but build the drawing over them, Zoë considered how it might appear to leave the geometric construction lines on the surface of the stone.

Carved in her favourite Welsh Slate it took Zoë around 3 weeks to complete the carving. Zoë likes to give her work a title which reflects how she was feeling whilst carving it. This piece was made during a Covid pandemic lockdown, Zoë felt a feeling of being forced. Forced not to see friends and family, forced to stay at home. The carving however also reminded her of playing with pattern making as a child with centrifugal force and spinning paint.

The original stone was 50 x 50 x 5cm in size weighing 28kgs and is also available to buy
