Level two stone carving course taught by award winning carver Zoë Wilson. This day course will be given at Zoë’s Studio in Hampshire where you will be able to see her work and experience a day in the life of a stone carver.
You’ll be taught relief carving in stone using traditional carving methods and tools, you’ll also be invited to take your stone home with you at the end of the course. All tools and stone will be provided as well as safety goggles and dust mask. There will be regular breaks and a delicious lunch will be provided by the cafe on site.

Level 2, stone carving course taught by Zoë Wilson in her studio in Hampshire, UK.
This 1 day course is suitable for those who have already attended a level 1 beginners course with Zoë. Up to 6 students can be accommodated on the course, creating a friendly, fun environment. Students will learn in a group and also receive 1:1 guidance with plenty of time to concentrate on their individual work.
Location: The course will take place in Zoë’s studio at Houghton Lodge Gardens near Stockbridge in Hampshire. SO20 6LQ. The gardens are open to the public in the Summer and Autumn. There is ample parking on site including disabled access. You are invited by the Lodge to park your car on the grass either side of the track in the summer and on the concrete in the winter. On arrival please walk past the cafe on your left into the courtyard. Zoë’s studio is under the archway to the right where she will be waiting to greet you.
About the course: The course runs from 9.30am till 4pm. You will be guided through drawing a carving project this time looking at relief carving. Zoë will provide all carving tools and the stone to work on as well as everything you will need for drawing and modelling the design such as pencils, compasses, ruler, clay etc. There will be a tea break in the morning and the afternoon. Hot drinks are included but it is advisable to bring a bottle of water. Lunch will be provided by The Glass House tearoom which is on site or the The Boot pub with is a 5 minute drive away. In winter this is likely be soup and a sandwich or similar.
Health and Safety: Zoe Wilson takes safety very seriously and a briefing on Health and Safety is part of every course. Safety goggles and dust masks will be provided but it is up to the individual if they wish to wear them. Sturdy covered shoes must be worn in the studio, steel toecaps are not essential but a good idea if you have them. Zoë will advise on best practice for health and safety but it is up to the individual to follow these guidelines. Zoe Wilson does not accept responsibility for injury to students or loss or damage to their property. Warm clothing should be worn, the studio does have an open fire but the room can be cold especially in the mornings.
Terms and conditions: Should you find you are unable to attend the course please let Zoë know by email as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to fill your place, however a refund can only be given if this has been possible. Should the course be cancelled for any reason all money paid will be refunded. Should you be late for the course please email or phone Zoë as soon as possible. If you were more than one hour late it would not be possible to join in as you would have missed too much. Zoë may need to leave promptly at the end of the course because of childcare needs so asks if you would kindly move to the tearoom if you would like to stay and talk to other members of the course.
